SCOPE AND CONTENT
The William Henry Harrison Gaines Maps Collection is comprised of two (2), undated historic maps for Sullivan County.  One map is a map of early schools, and the other a map of early post offices.  The maps are believed to have been made circa 1900, as they were used by William Henry Harrison Gaines who died in 1910.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
William Henry Harrison Gaines (1836-1910) was born in the Arcadia section of Sullivan County, Tennessee to John Strother Gaines and Letitia Dalton Moore.  William married in 1887 to Maria A. Seneker (1853-1934), and he served as a postmaster in the county.
